As a human I am constantly trying to reconcile my relationship with the wild. I am developing an awareness of my reliance and impact on the greater living world – my personal balance of coexistence. In some ways, we choose to interact with wilderness, in other ways it is an unavoidable relationship – we are inextricably intertwined. Humans are animals, and as such we are a part of wilderness. Historically, humans have clothed and adorned themselves in order to be separate from that which is not human. I am trying to counter this idea by adorning myself with the purpose of becoming closer to the wild. As a society we have moved so far from our roots in the environment in which we live; most of us lack an intimate relationship with the plants, animals, rivers, and geology of our immediate environment. This work is based directly on experiences in the wild, on ideas of how I can better communicate with wild existence, and on a need to be more closely connected to the environment in which I live.
