Water is an artist. I made this basket from washed-ashore kelp during my residency at the Sitka Center for Art and Ecology. Before my departure, I placed the basket in the Salmon River, wanting to leave the materials where they were found. A month later, the basket returned to the estuary shore. The movement of the water, the journey of the materials: the tide added layers of significance to what came from my hands and the sea.
